Australia 8

Larger pict. Click right here. Fraser Island.

The only way to come here is by aeroplane, 4WD bus or jeep. Our bus was stuck in the fine sand many times.

Tip: Watch out when the chauffeur goes crazy getting the bus free, because you can easily get a headache banging your head against the windows inside or your fellow passenger on the seat next to you.

Everybody who has been on Fraser Island has seen this wreck: It is an old passenger ship which grounded back in 1935 on its way to a Japanese ship breaker..

The word is that the Australian Air Force and Navy used or still use this wreck for bombing exercises. Perhaps this is the reason why it looks so poor.

Now we are at sea with this great boat, "Anaconda II". What happened to "Anaconda I" we were never told, but this is a great piece of craft.
The ship has sailed around the world twice and has also been in the Antarctic.

The boat is chartered  by " Oceania Dive" in Airlie Beach (Qld.)

Larger pict. Click right here. The ship is 82 feet long and this picture is taken from the 98 feet high mast. Airbank, nice cabins and dressing facilities. It´s hot below, so I slept on deck (as did most of the passengers) on a reserve sail, right under the southern cross (star constellation).

This is Katrine from Odense (Fyn, Denmark) who poses in front with  the "Whitsunday Islands" in the background.

On the 3rd. day, when I was making a "comment" about a defect in my diveing gear, we found out that we were two Danes on board. We spoke English, but swore in Danish :-)
